Matt Waldman’s RSP Views (July 6, 2018)

Matt Waldman’s Reads Listens Views is back in a slightly new form. This post is devoted to recommended views of the week.

Welcome

If you’re new to the Rookie Scouting Portfolio blog, welcome.  For years, I used to post links to pieces that I’ve found personally compelling or to content I hope will eventually scratch that itch when I get around to watching it.

After a two-year break, Reads Listens Views returns. You may not like everything listed here, but you’re bound to like something.

Thanks to Rookie Scouting Portfolio subscriber and Footballguys Audible listener Ana Jimenez for sharing this woods post with me.

While answering a questionnaire related to some work I’ll be undertaking behind the scenes, I stumbled across an article about the best bookstore in the world on My Modern Net  Here are a few that captured my imagination. There are many more in the article.

This is the Hangzhou Zhongshuge Bookstore in Hangzhou Zhejiang, China.

The El Ateneo Grand Splendid in Buenos Aires, Argentina befits its name.

Then there’s this funky archway at the Last Bookstore in Los Angeles.

While filling out this questionnaire, the thought of underground speakeasy’s came to mind. The Washhouse in Manchester looks like a laundromat at the entrance but enter through the giant dryer and you’ll find yourself in a subterranean realm filled with your favorite elixirs.

This untitled mural in the Museum of Contemporary Art’s second-floor atrium is a tribute to artist Lorna Simpson. It’s made of vinyl wallpaper.

Last but not least…
