RSP Boiler Room No.30: QB Vad Lee-Line Calls & Footwork

VadLeeSMU

As Lee’s game-winner against SMU reveals, sometimes “bad footwork” is little more than good footwork as an adjustment to a protection change.

I spent nearly a couple of hours with James Madison QB this week studying his performance against SMU. Watch the entire episode and you’ll find some great nuggets about pre-snap adjustments, coverage reads, and technical fundamentals.

One of the more notable takeaways from this episode was the story behind Lee’s game-winning touchdown and the protection call he made pre-snap. Lee made a great point that many analysts mistake an adjustment to a protection call with bad footwork and I thought this 3-4 minutes was especially instructive for analysts and fans as they study footwork with other quarterbacks.
