The OBR Podcast: Matt Waldman And Jake Burns Revisit Baker Mayfield’s Scouting Reports

Rookie Scouting Portfolio writer Matt Waldman joins the OBR to discuss his and Lance Zierlein’s pre-draft scouting reports of Browns’ quarterback Baker Mayfield and reflect on his NFL career to date.

My comp for Mayfield wasn’t Brett Farve, Russell Wilson, or Drew Brees, the three most popular comparisons I saw in draft media.

Mine was a stronger-armed Jeff Garcia. Not a ringing endorsement for No.1 pick but a passer, who, when he had strong surrounding talent, could deliver Pro Bowl seasons.

Of course, it’s harder to build a sustainable infrastructure around this type of quarterback and become a legitimate contender deep into January.

OBR’s excellent analyst, Jake Burns had me on this week to review my scouting report and current thoughts on Baker Mayfield’s development. We also review Lance Zierlein’s report as a point of comparison and I offer my thoughts on a veteran passer the Browns would be wise to inquire about if Cleveland parts company with Mayfield.
