Matt Waldman’s RSP Film Room examines the work of 2022 NFL Draft prospect Kenneth Walker III, a talented running back with dynamic and efficient movement for the position.
There aren’t many running backs who have as voluminous of a library of moves and the judgment of when to use them as Walker. The transfer from Wake Forest is lighting up the Big Ten and college football this year and making a case to be one of first runnign backs off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft. Walker’s agility, footwork, and creativity are significant reasons why.
Most backs who can jump cut, spin, and layer moves in succession to defeat collegiate defenders tend to overuse these moves. Not Walker.
Walker prefers the efficient moves that aren’t cut-heavy. He can open his hips and change direction with a lot less space than a hard cut, giving him optimal time and space to avoid difficult pursuit angles. Walker also has the curvilinear movement to bend around pursuit angles without losing a lot of speed, which is a typical problem for cut-reliant runners.
Watch Walker’s performance against Miami this year and you’ll begin to appreciate that Walker has an extensive toolbox of moves to earn yardage, making him dynamic, efficient, and unpredictable.
