Matt Waldman’s Rookie Scouting Portfolio shares a pair of clips from 2021 NFL Draft prospect Rhamondre Stevenson, an Oklahoma running back with a lot more game than his pre-draft buzz.
A Matt Waldman Favorite.
It’s a phrase that I see a lot on Twitter that I think came from Sigmund Bloom during our podcasts together. A Matt Waldman Favorite doesn’t mean the player is necessarily the best prospect on the board at his position, but it means I like the player’s game and potential to surprise.
Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Nick Chubb, Travis Kelce, Keenan Allen, Michael Thomas, and Russell Wilson are examples of Matt Waldman favorites who were early picks that still outperformed expectations.
Cooper Kupp, Peyton Barber, Marvin Jones, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Mike Davis, and Robert Tonyan are examples of Matt Waldman favorites who were selected later if selected at all during the NFL Draft, who worked their way into prominent production at some point during their careers.
Oklahoma running back Rhamondre Stevenson likely has the profile of the later group of Matt Waldman favorites, but he has the talent and an opportunity to vault his stock closer to the realm of the first group.
A big back with little back feet, Stevenson doesn’t let his agility and quickness take over his game when the game calls for him to truck a defender with extreme prejudice. Watch these videos and you’ll see a big man every-down potential.
This ain’t bad, either. Very comfortable tracker of the ball. Fluid body control and H/E coordination. pic.twitter.com/VRjl5CKkSG

If Stevenson’s off-field behavior matches his on-field play, this is the back that will make some NFL team look smart for taking after the first tier or two of runners leave the board.
