Welcome
If you’re new to the Rookie Scouting Portfolio blog, welcome. Every Friday, I post links to pieces that I’ve found personally compelling or to content I hope will eventually scratch that itch when I get around to listening to it.

I knew some guys who played with Buddy Rich. The stories about him as a bandleader are hilarious and terrifying drama depending whether you were a participant, up-close observer, or after-the-fact audience. One of them involved an argument that ended with Rich ordering the driver to stop the band’s tour bus, forcing one of his trumpet players from the vehicle on the shoulder of I-95 in Miami, and telling him to walk the rest of the way to the gig.
He was a hell of a drummer.
