Matt Waldman’s RSP Listens (July 6, 2018)

Matt Waldman’s Reads Listens Views is back in a slightly new form. This post is devoted to recommended listens of the week.

Welcome

If you’re new to the Rookie Scouting Portfolio blog, welcome.  For years, I used to post links to music that I enjoy.

After a two-year break, Reads Listens Views returns. You may not like everything listed here, but you’re bound to like something.

If you’ve never heard Lalah Hathaway and her vocal multiphonics, you’re in for a treat at about the 6:15 mark.

Roxy Coss as a great sound on tenor and the arrangement of Green Dolphin Street is excellent. Love the intro and the way she covered the head of the tune.

I enjoy some of these reaction videos on YouTube — especially young folks listening to music that was first out when I was the same age as the people listening to the first time. Weaboo Reacts is my fave. He curses a lot so this isn’t safe for work or your young kids. However, it’s fun to watch someone enjoy music that you like for the first time.

While the Stevie Ray Vaughan Voodoo Chile hits closer to home for me, Weaboo’s reaction to Eddie Van Halen’s solo on Eruption earns a lot of smiles and laughter.

Apparently, Weaboo ain’t but a day trip down the road from me. Since he played the saxophone, I think it would be fun to convince Weaboo to have me on as a guest and hip him to some Kenny Garrett. It won’t be popular because it isn’t the music that his audience likes. However, if anyone wants to start a write-in campaign for me and Weaboo to do a show, I’m willing to hip him to something else…

That’s all I’m sayin’ …
