Matt Waldman’s RSP Listens (June 29. 2018)

Matt Waldman’s Reads Listens Views is back in a slightly new form. This post is devoted to recommended listens of the week.

Welcome

If you’re new to the Rookie Scouting Portfolio blog, welcome.  For years, I used to post links to music that I enjoy.

After a two-year break, Reads Listens Views returns. You may not like everything listed here, but you’re bound to like something.

I learned about Turkuaz a few months ago. Their lyrics are interesting stories and they groove. They also play a fun selection of covers. The corps members of this band come from the renowned Berklee College of Music.

I learned about Bob Reynolds from one of my college roommates, a professional musician who met Bob in Los Angeles. Bob plays with the Grammy-winning band Snarky Puppy. He also has an excellent Vlog about being a musician.

Need to relax? This 20-minute meditation with Tibetan singing bowls is fantastic. I’ve been fascinated with these instruments since I first saw Pharoah Sanders in Atlanta use one in a performance 20 years ago. As the band faded out, he began stirring this large bowl. As the volume grew, you could feel the quavering tones go through your body. It was one of the unique and amazing musical moments I’ve experienced during a concert.

Chris Potter is an amazing improviser.
