I value plays that go off script when studying prospects. Here’s one with Stanford’s star runner.
Christian McCaffery is growing on me. In terms of ranking, I don’t know exactly what that means yet.
What I can tell you is that I like him and if subsequent viewings help me answer remaining questions in a positive way, I might even be excited for the team that lands him. I’m not there yet, but I can see the possibility and that’s a notable step—especially compared to where I was this summer after a study session involving a game with a smaller variety of observable skills on display.
This play below isn’t the highlight only seen from a superstar, but it is a display I’d see in the portfolio of a reliable and productive contributor in the NFL.
Even so, there are enough little things about his game that lead me to wonder if his upside is higher than what I just described.
