Player evaluation is an art of projection.

The process of looking at young athletes and trying to determine how their current level of play will translate to the professional level is an imperfect art at best. Part of the reason for this is that you are making determinations before critical pieces to the puzzle are provided. Scheme fit and coaching staff are unknowns, but you do what you can to ascertain just how well a current level of skill will develop over time.

Nowhere is that process more difficult than the quarterback position. Part of what one undergoes when evaluating quarterbacks is identifying traits where the player can improve, and then placing a level of confidence in their ability to do just that as a pro.

Jalen Hurts is a very interesting prospect. Many of the things those on the outside cannot test for, such as character and leadership, are critical components to playing quarterback. From everything we on the outside can read, Hurts is going to test off the charts in those areas.

But as to the position between the lines, how does Hurts really stack up?
