Once upon a time, Trevon Wesco was a 220-pound, three-star recruit who played quarterback in high school and didn’t have the grades to play Division-I college football. Fast-forward to this January, and Wesco is a 274-pound H-Back running whip routes in Senior Bowl practices with the fluid weight drop of a slot receiver one rep and posting up linebackers for receptions the next.
Big media targeted Foster Moreau as the tight end it would heap praise onto as the underrated player whose collegiate program didn’t use him to his fullest abilities. While Moreau is deserving, Wesco flew under the national radar this week and he’s the more intriguing prospect.
Wesco is one of the best and most versatile blockers in his class. He can lead block from the wing or as a fullback. He can drive block, cut-off block, hook opponents, and reach block.
‘When he strikes, Wesco consistently delivers a violent punch and rolls his hips through the contact. His sound technique allows him to stop all three levels of defenders upon the collision. Dana Holgerson described Wesco as the sixth member of the Mountaineers offensive line and said the H-Back was blocking as well as any tight end he’s seen at this level of football.
Wesco is also a dangerous route runner, receiver, and ball carrier. After he earns separation and the target, Wesco is difficult to bring to the ground thanks to his fluid movement and power.
Moreau might be labeled this draft class’s tight end most likely to exceed his college career in the NFL. However, Wesco could be this position’s most underrated option.
