Matt Waldman’s Rookie Scouting Portfolio showcases a technically-proficient deep post route from 2019 NFL Draft prospect, WR Tyre Brady of Marshall. 

One of the fundamental ideas behind good route running is the sale of the nine route. If a receiver can convince his opponent that he’s running past him in a straight line down the field, he can successfully manipulate that defender to his advantage. Tyre Brady is a long, lean, and strong receiver with deep speed who understands how to run a good post route.

On the surface, a post route appears pretty simple: Run in a straight line for a specific length and then break inside to the middle of the field. Run faster than your coverage and you win the route. Like any good craftsman, the neophyte will examine the result and conclude it’s a simple thing.

Brady’s one of the receivers that caught my eye during the 2017 season. He has the frame and the game of a potential NFL starter. I anticipate that I’ll be sharing a lot more of Brady’s work this fall and winter.
