A quarterback’s footwork is the on-field window into his mind. When I study Josh Rosen’s game, I see a refined passer that is well-prepared for his opponents and performing in a setting where the collegiate game is slower for him than his peers.

Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have the athletic gifts to make a few plays each game without extensive help from their offensive lines, but neither is as technically or conceptually polished as Rosen. Give Rosen a decent offensive line and the veteran receiving talent that will spend extra time with him during the first 2-3 years of Rosen’s career, and there’s a better than average chance that he’s the top quarterback prospect while will at worst, have a career like Matt Ryan.

The 3-4 plays of Rosen below are illustrative of his preparation, composure, technical refinement, and toughness. This is not a player only in football for the money.

On a related note, Rosen’s personality may be under scrutiny from ‘Anonymous Scout Land’ but Trent Dilfer would be one to bury Rosen for his past behavior and he makes fantastic points about the rookie’s behavior and its parallels to the behavior of top NFL quarterbacks.
