RSP Boiler Room No. 91: RB James Conner (Pittsburgh)

Matt Waldman’s RSP Boiler Room takes a brief look at Pittsburgh Steelers 2017 NFL Draft pick James Conner’s quickness and cut blocking.

I wish James Conner ran the 20 Shuttle and 3-Cone at the NFL Combine. If he truly regained some of the pre-illness agility and quickness that he claims in this letter published in The Players’ Tribune, I could have had a justifiable reason with my evaluation process to rate Conner higher than I did.

If Conner proves he can consistently beat good angles by NFL linebackers and safeties, his potential is within the realms of the top 5-6 backs in the 2017 class. Below is a look at one play where Conner beats a defensive back at what he says is 60-70 percent of the shape where he expects to be.
