We kick off the 2016 RSP Film Room like the way we ended it: Matt Harmon and I studying a wide receiver.

Clemson’s Mike Williams has the build of Martavis Bryant and A.J. Green. Does he have the same game? Matt Harmon and I didn’t see enough contested plays involving Williams against N.C. State and Oklahoma to make that conclusion.

What we did witness is a receiver who makes solid reads of the coverage, sells the vertical route to set up the rest of his routes, displays promise with route depth, and a willingness to stick his nose into traffic as a ballcarrier.

There is also evidence of Williams showing feel for the game. The Clemson receiver is more than an impressive athlete trying to out-athlete the competition. There’s some discipline and football concepts in his game that indicate he’s willing to become a craftsman at the position. He’s worth a close look this year–and if he stays at Clemson in 2016–next year.
