It’s that time of the week where I like to take a moment to thank all of you for making it a habit to read the Rookie Scouting Portfolio blog. Hopefully you find the content as enjoyable to read as it is to write. While I enjoy the comments on the blog and email messages a great deal – keep ’em coming – if you wish to show your appreciation and get a gift that keeps on giving order the 2011 Rookie Scouting Portfolio. On behalf of the Footballguys staff and all of you who read his work, I’d like to wish Footballguy extraordinaire and RSP blog contributor Dr. Jene Bramel a speedy recovery. The good doctor did the fantasy football broadcast equivalent of “playing hurt,” by phoning in his segment on Thursday night’s Audible podcast from a hospital bed.
From the sounds of Jene’s voice and the nature of his ailment, it appears our good doctor will make a quick recovery despite the fact that waiting for his issue “to pass,” probably made him even more empathetic to his wife giving birth to their two sons than he was before. Get well soon, brother.
While I found the ultimate “vessel” for Lammey this morning from the Luv Ya Blue Boating Company, here’s another game I remember listening to on the radio when I was eight years old riding around with my pal Gary Hoffman. The ambivalent feelings of pride and shame for the city of my youth, which might be the first official hooligan fan base of pro football, brings a perverse sense of fleeting joy that my parents’ generation and their parents’ generation didn’t know how to behave, either. I’m also glad to give a quick nod to former Houston receiver No. 00 Ken Burrough, the first pass catcher I remember watching with awe.

Fantasy Football
“Hello, my name is ____ ________ and I’m a Fantasy Throwdown addict.” That’s the common refrain I’ve heard this week on Twitter. Here’s all you need to know:
- This on-on-one weekly game is simple and intuitive, but still strategic and challenging.
- The drafts are flexible to d0: it takes 10 minutes if you and your opponent are online. You can can also email draft and finish several in a week.
- Drafts can include PPR and IDP and you can throw down with anyone with public and private challenges.
- This beta test is working well – I drafted our site’s 1000th challenge about three hours ago – and it’s FREE to play.
The draft is the best part of fantasy football and when Mike MacGregor and I couldn’t come up with a good answer why the draft shouldn’t remain a part of fantasy football from the preseason to the Super Bowl we decided we needed to do something about it.
