Greg Pruitt – there’s a lot of Pruitt in the best of Reggie Bush. I doubt there was a fine on the Chargers defender in`73.

I’ve been under the weather this week, so my regular posting schedule has been disrupted somewhat. However, a sincere thank you to those of you who continue to the make the Rookie Scouting Portfolio Blog a part of your regular reading schedule. As I’ve been saying weekly, if you like what you’ve seen thus far, please consider these three acts of kindness:

  1. Subscribe to this blog. It’s free.
  2. Share this blog with your friends.
  3. Send me feedback.

And then consider performing one special act of kindness to yourself: Get my publication The Rookie Scouting Portfolio. Those who buy it love it.

The RSP is a 120-150 page rookie report loaded with analysis, rankings, and player comparisons of over 150 offensive skill position prospects. And unlike any publication remotely of its type, I also show the reader my work with an appendix containing hundreds of pages of game study notes as well as my position-specific scoring checklists adopted from best-practice methods for performance evaluation.

Back issues of the RSP (2006-2010) are available for purchase by emailing me.

It’s this time of the week where I share what I’ve been reading, listening, and viewing each week – football, fantasy football, and non-football.

Entertainment: John Coltrane – A Love Supreme

Whether it’s football, music, or any other part of life, change is a constant part of life. We tend to dislike what we don’t understand, but when we approach those things with an open mind and a willingness to learn do we gain an appreciation or love of something new to us. John Coltrane’s Album A Love Supreme is one of my favorite albums of all time. But the first time I heard it, I didn’t like it.  It didn’t make sense to me at first.

But somewhere along the line – with additional life experiences (and no, not psychotropic drugs) – it began to make perfect sense. The emotional depth and intensity of what this quartet created is unmatched. It’s not always about amplifiers, feedback, and decibels.

Football

Kevin Boss on teammate Denarius Moore by Doug Farrar. Yes, water is still wet but when you get a Greg Cosell take that’s always worth a quick read.

Georgia freshman RB Isaiah Crowell a prospect to remember:

Non-Football

Two executions occurred on Wednesday:

Davis proclaimed his innocence until his death, citing a case of mistaken identity and pursuing a stay of education and retrial for many years. Brewer, a white supremacist who tied his victim to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him for miles up a gravel road, was guilty of perhaps the most brutal hate crime in the post-Civil Rights era.

I found it fascinating that the family of the murdered police officer attended the execution and wished to see Davis put to death to see justice serviced. Meanwhile, Byrd’s family did not attend the execution and pleaded with the government to give Brewer life in prison.

My heart goes out to all the families involved. However, the dichotomy of reactions among the two families makes a big statement about our country. I’ll let you think about what that statement is and draw your own conclusion.
